They have a vast assortment of pre-college programs for teenagers, most of which are attended by American children. These programs take place on the campuses of very well-known universities, and are designed so that their participants can get a taste of college life on campus, learn new subjects at the same time, and in some of the programs, earn college credit. The program at ULCA offers something for almost every student\u2014it has a wide selection of enrichment courses and sports, along with some very specialized programs in Business and Entertainment, and programs of varying numbers of weeks. It is set on one of the largest United States university campuses, in a city that is a perfect place for teenagers to visit in summer. For students whose first language is not English, there is almost no better way for them to improve their English than by immersing themselves in courses that they find interesting, so that they better learn the language at the same time as the subject matter, while surrounded with American students their own age. The Italian students I have sent on these programs returned with a vast improvement in their language skills and connections to American and international friends that they maintained throughout the year.
