Founded in 1811, Thornton Academy is one of New England’s oldest college preparatory schools. Its comprehensive curriculum consists of 200 courses, including seven foreign languages, 30 arts classes, and more than 60 AP, dual enrollment, and honors courses. The school’s collaborations with both the University of New England and the University of Maine School of Engineering allows students to bypass the first year of classes at both schools.

Thornton’s dramatic arts are regarded as a highly developed program that includes courses in theater basics, acting, and technical theater with a focus on media arts.

Summer at Thornton Academy
Held on Thornton Academy’s beautiful campus, the program features two classes in the mornings and two activities per day in the afternoons and evenings.
Summer at Thornton Academy is designed for both day and boarding students and features classes in arts, STEM, humanities, English language Learning, and more. All classes are taught by experienced Thornton Academy teachers.
Afternoon and evening activities encourage students to discover American culture, have fun, and explore topics from the morning classes. Sample activities include a visit to an art museum or lobstering in a lobster boat in Casco Bay.
