English Summer Camp in Umbria
Overview
Everchanging, untouched landscapes in the green of winding valleys make Umbria a region that will never fail to amaze. This region is mostly comprised of hills, mountains, hollows and plains, and extends along the Tiber’s central basin. Located at the heart of the “boot” that is Italy, it is the only central region with no coastline.
Todi, near the Agrincontri agriturismo, is a town in the province of Perugia. It is perched on a tall two-crested hill overlooking the east bank of the river Tiber, commanding distant views in every direction. It was founded by the “Umbri,” an ancient Italic people, in 2700 BC with the name of Tutere, which means “border.” The city was in fact located right on the border with the Etruscan territories. Conquered by the Romans in 217 BC, the city had a double line of walls that managed to stop even Hannibal after his victory at lake Trasimeno.
A collage of soft-stone houses, palazzi and belfries pasted to a hillside, Todi looks freshly minted for a fairy tale. Wandering its steeply climbing backstreets is like playing a game of medieval snakes and ladders. The pace of life inches along, keeping time with the wildflowers and vines that seasonally bloom and ripen in the valley below.

Things to Do and See During a Vacation Study
Set like a gem in the heart of Italy, Umbria is perfect for those who love nature and want to discover its woods, castles, sanctuaries, towns like Assisi and Spello, right up to the slopes of Mount Subasio.
Near Terni, the Cascate delle Marmore waterfalls attract visitors from every part of Europe, not only for the splendor of their waters but also for the possiblities to canoe and kayak, and for the child-friendly itineraries that include exciting tours through the Umbrian terrain.
One of the best things to do in Todi is surely to immerse yourself in the Middle Ages through the medieval districts; main sights include the Duomo (cathedral), the Palazzo del Capitano, the Palazzo del Priore and the Palazzo del Popolo.
Another charming route in timeless places is that of faith and spirituality, following in the footprints of the region’s most celebrated citizens, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Clare, and St. Benedict of Norcia. Walking along the Via Francigena of St. Francis, you will see boundless landscapes through an intimate perspective, and enjoy the company of other pilgrims at the same time.
Along the way are various places to stay and to eat.
Another possible itinerary is through the famous “wine trails” that will satisfy all five senses by way of nature, taste, history and traditions. Besides the obvious wine tasting, one can take part in food and wine traditions and admire the old crafts of ceramics, glass and wood – typical artisan goods with ancient origins.
