Summer Camp in Engelberg
Overview
Engelberg is the largest winter and summer holiday destination in central Switzerland. The attractive village with the famous monastery offers a wide variety of holiday activities for families, visitors and the local Swiss population.
Engelberg is located 25 km south of Lake Lucerne, in a wide mountain valley at an altitude of approximately 1000 meters. At 3,239 meters, Titlis mountain with its glacier, and Hahnen mountain at 2,600 meters tower over the surrounding peaks. One of the top 10 ski regions in Switzerland, Engelberg is also known for its diverse ski and freeride area. In the summer, it offers hiking, mountaineering, climbing, biking, and golf.
The town of Engelberg is appealing because of its distinct and rustic character. The Benedictine monastery was founded in 1120 and to this day has a great impact on the life of the village. Monks still live, work and teach there. Much of the local town architecture is from the Belle Epoque period.
Engelberg is not just a winter resort – it’s a winter paradise. The two sides of the valley could not be more different and they provide pure enjoyment to both athletes and amateurs. As the locals like to boast, Engelberg has the most beautiful ski area in central Switzerland.
Engelberg is also a summer playground offering hiking with views far and wide. 500 km of hiking trails offer everything from leisurely to strenuous routes. There are pleasant places to stop and rest, countless grilling spots and mountain restaurants.

Things to Do and See During a Vacation Study
Engelberg Abbey
The village’s Benedictine Monastery still has a community of monks and goes back to 1120. The architecture of the church and monastic complex is all late-Baroque. Visitors can view the stuccowork and frescoes on the abbey’s barrel vault or sign up for a German language tour for extra information about the monastery.
Mount Titlis
Mount Titlis soars to more than 3,200 meters and is located south of Engelberg. The journeys by gondola, which is the first fully rotating gondola in the world, and cable car are part of the thrill, and present astonishing views.
There are panoramic restaurants and other eateries at the top, as well as the Ice Flyer, a chairlift that carries visitors over the surface of the glacier.
Titlis Glacier Cave
A must-see attraction, the Glacier Cave is at the top of Mount Titlis, where the ice goes back to the prehistoric era before the discovery of fire. The walls radiate a unusual and beautiful turquoise-blue light caused by refracted sunlight.
Ski and Snowboard
Engelberg has more than 80 kilometers of downhill skiing and snowboarding. The trails are set at between 1,050 and 3,020 meters: Thanks to the high elevation there’s good snow cover until April.
