Overview
The historical town of Brecon, in Wales, has a beautiful Cathedral and an assortment of shops, pubs and restaurants. The town is the home of the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh infantry, and it has a theatre, cinema, three supermarkets and a post office. For eating out, there are many cafes and pubs. Brecon also has a good leisure centre with a swimming pool, squash and tennis courts, a fitness centre and beauty salon.

Things to Do and See During a Vacation Study
Crickhowell
A short drive from Brecon, Crickhowell is a small but bustling town, with many small shops and cafes. It is a perfect place to spend an afternoon browsing. There are a number of pubs in the town; The Bear is especially recommended for an evening meal.
Glasbury
For a fun-filled river adventure, students can go canoeing down the river Wye from Glasbury, which winds past some scenic locations in the Welsh countryside.
Golf
The Brecon area has many 18-hole golf courses. The nearest Golf Clubs are Brecon and Cradoc, and 40 minutes away is the Celtic Manor Resort, which hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The Dragon’s Back and Dinas Castle in Pengenfordd
Five kilometers outside the village of Talgarth, students can begin a walk from the Dragon’s Back pub, enjoying stunning views of the mountains. The ruins of Dinas Castle are a shorter hike away.
Llangasty Church, Llangorse Lake and Bird Hide
Students can enjoy a lovely walk from Trebinshun House to St. Gastyn’s Church, on the edge of Llangorse Lake. A footpath continues through the conservation area to a bird hide where they can sit and watch the many varieties of water birds that live on the lake. Around the lake, the walk will lead to the village of Llangorse, where there are two pubs for refreshment. On Llangorse Lake itself, students can hire a boat and fish on the lake or you can hire paddleboards and rowing boats. There is a reconstructed Crannog (a model of the Celtic village that once existed on the lake.) For a shorter walk, students can park at the foot of Mynydd Llangorse. The initial ascent is steep but offers stunning views of the surrounding area and Llangorse Lake.
Talgarth
The ancient village of Talgarth is a 15-minute drive away. Students can visit the working watermill in the centre of town and sample some of the bread in the cafe. Talgarth also has a post office, shop, and five pubs.
Llangorse Multi-activity Centre
A short drive from Trebinshun House, students can visit the indoor climbing centre or go on a horse ride in the surrounding countryside (suitable for all levels of riders.)
Fishing
Even for more experienced fly-fishermen, the wily trout of the River Usk will still provide an exciting challenge! There are many great fishing spots all along this river, and the nearby River Wye is also excellent for salmon and trout fishing.
Three Rivers Ride
The Three Rivers Ride goes straight past Trebinshun House and the staff can accommodate riders and horses. There are also several pony trekking and riding establishments in the area.
Castles
In the Brecon area, there are large impressive fortresses like Raglan Castle to smaller round keeps (fortified towers) in Tretower. Many towns such as Brecon, Hay and Crickhowell still have medieval keeps in their center. For the more adventurous, there is the Three Castles walk that begins in Whitecastle and covers approximately 20 miles.
The Allt
The walk over the Allt offers panoramic views of Llangorse Lake, The Black Mountains, the Usk Valley and the Brecon Beacons. Starting from Trebinshun House, the walk is just over 6 km along the original Roman road.
Hay-On-Wye
Only 30 minutes away from Trebinshun House, the world famous “town of books” hosts the Hay Festival book festival every year at the end of May. Hay has its own castle as well, as many book and antique shops.
Llanthony Priory and the Gospel Pass
There is a beautiful drive along the Gospel Pass to Llanthony Priory. The ancient ruins were first built in the 12th Century, and have since seen the comings and goings of rebellions, kings and poets.
Pen-Y-Fan
Pen-Y-Fan is the highest peak in the National Park, offering spectacular views. A 6-km walk starts at the Storey Arms (reachable by bus from Brecon.)
Talybont Waterfalls
Above the village of Talybont, the River Caerfanell drops through the mountains in a series of spectacular gorges and cascading waterfalls. The park contains offers well-maintained footpaths with plenty of spots for a picnic.
