Overview
St. Petersburg is one of the most populous and beautiful cities in Europe. It is located in the northwest of Russia, not far from Estonia and Finland, and serves as the country’s most important port. It was founded by the Czar Peter the Great in 1703, and until 1991, with the fall of the Soviet regime, it was known by the names of Petrograd and later Leningrad. St. Petersburg is a highly cosmopolitan city, and its historic center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also an important commercial, financial and industrial center, particularly for oil and gas.
St. Petersburg can be visited all year round. Between May and July the phenomenon of the White Nights occurs, with sunlight present for 18 hours a day.

How to Arrive at your Language Course
By Air
St. Petersburg is well connected to most European and some Asian countries by air. All flights are served by Terminal 1 of St. Petersburg Pulkovo airport, located 10 km from the city.
Direct bus lines 39 or 39A connect the airport to the center of St. Petersburg (Moskovskaya underground station) or the marshrutka (commercial mini-bus) 39. By Train
St. Petersburg can be easily reached by train from Central European countries as well as from the Baltics, France, Germany and Finland. Direct trains come from Vilnius, Tallinn, Riga and Helsinki. Moscow is linked to St. Petersburg by numerous day and overnight trains of all levels of comfort. High-speed trains (Sapsan) are also available several times a day in each direction.
By Bus
The bus company Ecolines connects St. Petersburg to the capitals of Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with travel times of just a few hours. The buses make different stops in the city center near the Baltiysky and Vitebsky railway stations and at the central bus station.
By Ferry
Ferry operator St. Peter Line runs one line connects St. Petersberg to Helsinki (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden) and Tallinn (Estonia).
