Located in Rouen, the historical and cultural capital of Normandy, French in Normandy was voted the Best Language School in France by agents around the world for four consecutive years and a five-time winner of that award. As such, students will be able to appreciate one of the finest French language training centers in the world in one of the most beautiful cities in France.
Rouen is a city on the River Seine in the north of France, and capital of the Normandy region. During the Middle Ages, Rouen was France’s second largest city after Paris. In the 12th century, half of today’s France was ruled by England. Caught in the middle, Rouen walked a political tightrope between England and France for centuries. As important English base during the Hundred Years’ War, Rouen was the city in which Joan of Arc lived and died. Today, Rouen mixes dazzling Gothic architecture with contemporary bustle. It’s a thriving port with a pedestrian-friendly old town and a grand cathedral standing as a reminder of the town’s historic importance. On the international scene, it also hosts events like the Davis Cup and the Tour de France.

French in Normandy: 26 bis Rue Valmont de Bomare, 76100 Rouen, France
“I became familiar with this school and the owner, Eleri Maitland, when it joined IALC several years ago, and I had the opportunity to see it when the annual IALC workshop for agents was held in Rouen. As a city, Rouen was more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. The workshop delegates were placed in various small hotels in the center, as Rouen did not have a conference hotel large enough for hundreds of people to stay in one place. Mine was in a cobblestoned, pedestrian street next to the Cathedral (the hotel in fact had the same name) and walking the different routes to the various conference venues over a three day period was a delight. The historical center of this city is a gem of medieval architecture, and is filled with squares containing cafés, shops and restaurants. It is a perfect destination to study French as it has a university, allowing language students that age to make friends with the local students, and as a city, it large enough to give visitors enough to do, but not so large as to make long distances unmanageable. The much-awarded school French in Normandy is located about 20 minutes by bus from the center, rendering it reachable in a short amount of time, but closer to host families, so that students are not required to travel 45 minutes to an hour to reach them as can be the case in much larger cities. Then, for those who want the excitement of Paris for a day or weekend, it’s just one hour away from Rouen by frequent train service.”
