Julian Krinsky Villanova University 800 Lancaster Ave, Villanova, PA 19085, United States of America
“I have been familiar with the Julian Krinsky University enrichment programs for several years. These are a part of a group of programs that have been available in the United States for American high school students for many years, and whose participants still primarily come from that country. They are summer programs that take place on well-known and prestigious university campuses (also overseas, as in the UK and other European countries, but they are still mostly frequented by Americans) and are designed to give students a taste of college life before attending it. The students can choose from a very wide assortment of classes, called “enrichment” courses if they only serve to impart the learning of that subject, or in some cases, they can be counted for university credit later on. Almost all of these programs take place on campuses in cities that are very desirable at a touristic level—Boston, Los Angeles—the most important American cities for visitors. The students I send on these programs choose them out of desire to improve their English without taking formal language lessons, even when they are available among the choices—by the time they attend them, they have had many years of English in school—and out of a genuine interest in learning new, real-world subjects that they may not have the opportunity to take at home. They will be surrounded in class primarily by the American students I mentioned before, so they will have the opportunity to hear native English from their peers, and to make friendships that will last far beyond their time abroad. Outside of the class, the programs are packed with sporting and other activities on campuses with the finest facilities in the world, and with visits to exciting and historic destinations off campus. The Julian Krinsky program at Villanova University offers some distinct advantages over other programs of this type: it is located in Philadelphia, one of America’s oldest and historic cities, which is just about two hours from Manhattan, and the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. is also not far away. The Villanova program offers a vast assortment of course options on the general Enrichment program, or students can choose one of the more structured programs, like Business, Coding, Cooking, Tennis, Golf, and others. The Julian Krinsky programs are also one of the few on the market that offer the possibility of flexible program dates in the summer, and a flexible number of program weeks. All of the parents who have invested money in sending their children on these programs have told me that upon their return, the improvement in their level of English was no less than radical—in just a few short weeks, they had learned much more than they had in years of English class in school, or even on traditional, teacher-led school groups in which they had participated abroad.”
