The Rossall School offers a fantastic summer program open to pupils aged 11 – 17 from around the world and is set on a stunning coastal campus in the Northwest of England. Students can participate in an intensive English language program that has been combined with an exciting range of activities, specialized skills masterclasses and plenty of opportunities for memorable cultural experiences.
Rossall Summer School is located just outside of the town Fleetwood in Lancashire. Fleetwood is a beautiful, Victorian seaside resort boasting a stunning promenade, Art Deco Theatre, a harbour yacht marina set by a discount shopping village, traditional shops and the famous Fleetwood Market with its 200 stalls. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the promenade and see some of the most magnificent views in Lancashire, have some family fun at Marine Splash or see some top flight events at the historic Marine Hall Theatre. There are a number of award winning fish and chip shops in Wyre, and visitors can go crabbing at Fleetwood Boating Lake. It is possible to walk or cycle the length of the Fylde Coast along the promenade from Fleetwood on to Cleveleys and to Blackpool, which is approximately 17 km. The walk offers stunning views across the Irish Sea, or a passenger ferry is available to take visitors to Knott-End On Sea.
The closest international airports to Fleetwood are Liverpool (95 km) or Manchester (90 km).

Program Registration
Marshall Language Services will reserve a space on the course, and if necessary, make a note to the school of any accommodation preferences such as the desire to share a room with another student.
When the reservation is confirmed, parents will receive a profile and contact information for the host family if they have booked that form of accommodation, and if necessary, a letter for visa purposes.
Airport Transfers
Transfers to and from Liverpool and Manchester airports on the days of arrival and departure can be arranged at an additional cost. Marshall Language Services will need to furnish the participant’s flight information to the Rossall School so that the airport transfers can be organized. Parents will receive detailed instructions on what the student should do when their flight arrives. It is also possible for parents to accompany their children to the Rossall School campus personally. When the program is over, Rossall School staff will accompany the participants back to the airport and check them into their flights. If they are traveling as unaccompanied minors, they will hand over the children to airline staff.
Student Welfare
The Rossall School Summer program has a dedicated office and staff for student welfare, and an emergency 24-hour telephone number that will be provided to parents along with the enrolment confirmation. For students staying in residences, the program staff will be living on site with them to provide 24-hour supervision.
The courses
Course Content and sample timetables
Class sizes will never exceed 12 students with the exception of student-centered project lessons, where the emphasis is on group work with the opportunity for participants to present their project work to all of the students at the end of the week.
On arrival, students will sit a short English test to determine their ability level and then be assigned a class according to age and language ability.
English Lessons (to be combined with activity program only-Option 2)
Each student will receive 20 hours of English tuition per week from fully qualified teachers. The lessons focus on grammar, confidence and accuracy in speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills. Students who stay for three or more weeks will receive an English language certificate.
Specialized Skills (to be combined with English lessons and activity program-Option 1)
The Rossall Summer School has designed specialized skills weeks to allow students to focus on a specific activity alongside their English studies. The skills weeks offer an intensive teaching/ coaching programme to both beginners and experienced participants. The lessons are delivered by from professionals in each field.
Rossall Summer School WEEKLY PROGRAM
Week 1
- Tennis – ten hours of specialised tennis coaching. Sessions focus on skills such as spin, shot selection, power and agility. It includes series of workshops designed to develop players’ psychology and all-round athleticism to support off-court training.
- Fine arts (painting and drawing) – This week will focus on developing new, or building on existing, brush work and drawing skills
Week 2
- Horse Riding – The equestrian program combines qualified staff, experienced horses and excellent facilities to create an atmosphere in which students can advance their horse riding skills, expand their horsemanship knowledge and enjoy riding with friends.
- British Baking – Students learn the essential basics of baking while trying some of the most famous and time tested recipes.
Week 3
- Football with Paris Saint-Germain F.C. – The sessions will be led by PSG academy coaches with a wealth of experience in academy football. All students will receive a PSG Academy kit.
- Adventures in Astronomy – Rossall School boasts its very own Astronomy and Space Science Centre run by its in-house astronomer, Dr. Nick Lister, who will lead the course.
Week 4
- Golf – Rossall Summer School’s Golf week offers students of all abilities the chance to try, learn and play golf in any kind of weather. Rossall’s Golf Academy facilities include studios with GC3 Launch Monitors, swing room with 2 hitting bays and GC2 monitors, a putting lab wit SAM Puttlab, video analysis, 50m2 indoor short game area and a grass range.
- Advanced English Language – In addition to the 20 hours of English language offered on the standard course, students can intensive their programs with an Advanced English Language course. For pupils with English level B1 or higher.
Week 5
- Football with Paris Saint-Germain F.C.
- Modern Music Academy – Rossall’s Modern Music Academy week immerses students in music making as a solo artist and as part of a band.

- Design and Technology – Students will spend the week working on different designs to create a bespoke product over the ten-hour course learning the different stages of the design journey each day.

Residential Accommodation
Rossall Summer School students will live in comfortable single or double rooms in one of the school’s supervised boarding houses. Each house has a comfortable living space where students can relax and socialize. The day room contains a TV, DVD player and games facilities. The house also boasts a kitchenette for making snacks and drinks, and computers with internet access.
Meals
Students will eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the campus dining hall each day. If the weather permits, students will also enjoy regular BBQs and themed evenings, where students can sample various cuisines from around the globe.
Laundry
Rossall has an extensive staff of house keepers who will collect, launder, fold and return clothes to each child.

Rossall School is a large, British private boarding school educating Senior and Sixth Form boys and girls since 1844. The school presents a challenging curriculum in a friendly, global community environment with over 50 nationalities represented. Academic offerings include a large selection of GCSE core subjects, over 25 A-Level courses and the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma. Marshall Language Services works with this school year round to offer placements for 1 or 2 terms, a whole academic year, the full IB or A-level diploma, or longer periods.
