The language school par excellence of Malta, ESE is located in the coastal city of St. Julians, which is famous for its tourism, entertainment and night life. It has a vast range of English courses and programs for all ages and abilities in newly renovated, fantastic facilities as well as a large selection of high quality accommodations to suit all budgets.
Megaliths, medieval dungeons and Calypso’s Cave – The Maltese Islands are positively mythic. The narrow meandering streets of their towns and villages lead to the main square, which is invariably dominated by the huge baroque church. As the countryside is dotted with medieval towers, wayside chapels and the oldest known human structures in the world, the Islands have rightly been described as an open-air museum.
The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the center of the Mediterranean, 93 km south of Sicily and 288 km north of Africa. The archipelago consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino with a total population of over 400,000 inhabitants occupying an area of 316 square kilometers. The Maltese archipelago exudes the island’s hospitable mission. Genuinely friendly and welcoming, the Maltese have established a cosmopolitan reputation throughout the island’s rich history. Home to the Knights of Malta in the past, conquered or governed by a wide variety of conquerors, the Maltese islands have established themselves as a truly cosmopolitan archipelago.
St. Julians, Paceville, the location of many English language schools in Malta, is one of the liveliest areas of the Island, with banks, shops, restaurants, cafés, casinos, nightclubs, cinemas, a shopping center and most of the Island’s finest hotels.

ESE – European School of English Adult School, Triq Paceville, St Julians,Malta
“I began working with this school when it joined IALC in 2003, and have sent students of all ages and language levels there throughout the years. Working with its staff has always been an absolute pleasure. When I visited Malta, I toured several language schools, and in comparison to schools that I saw in much smaller, old buildings, its school building and accommodations had the best facilities and services by far (and the main building has been renovated once again since the time I was there). The quality of the teaching and the school’s attention to its students, despite its large size, has never been any less than its appearance. I found Malta in general to be an extremely interesting and unusual place to visit in Europe, with its blend of Arabic, English and European cultures, and the people exceptionally friendly and welcoming. It’s a great place to have a language vacation on a budget, not because the school or accommodations are low quality, but because the cost of living is much lower in Malta than in the rest of Europe. It is possible to do many more things in Malta at a reasonable cost with respect to England or Ireland, like eating out. Malta is also the only place in Europe for an English language course in which the weather is truly hot and sunny most of the time, allowing for sunbathing and water sports. Despite the fact that Maltese is the other official language of Malta, it does not present a problem for language learners, as the English spoken there is perfectly correct and native-sounding, and cannot be confused with the completely different, Arabic-based Maltese. This is truly one of my favorite destinations for my clients.”

From our clients
My daughter Isabella, spent three weeks in Malta at the ESE and was very happy there, in particular for the fact that the teachers and the organizers were young and very friendly. In her host family, she shared a room with a girl who was Turkish and another one who was Danish, and had the opportunity to be around students of various nationalities constantly. As a result, she spoke English all day. Ms. Marshall was very present, available and quick in helping us with all aspects of the booking and Isabella’s stay in Malta.
Best Regards,

HOST FAMILY
One of the best ways to learn more about the people of Malta is to choose homestay accommodation. All homestays are carefully selected and visited regularly to ensure consistently high standards. The school and Marshall Language Services recommend this form of accommodation the most for language learning. Family life is informal and the people are welcoming, friendly and talkative, so students will have plenty of opportunities to practice their English with native speakers. By booking homestay accommodation, students will also not have to worry about shopping for food and preparing meals every day. Mealtimes are often the occasions in which families converse most with the students.
Additional homestay provisions and information:
- Meals: Breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday, all meals on Saturday and Sundays.
- Most host families are located within walking distance of the ESE school premises.
- Students are placed in shared rooms. During the high season, a host family may host up to four students at a time.
