“I met the owner of IH Newcastle, Patricia Mullen, many years ago, and have seen her on occasion since then. One thing never changes about her—her cheerfulness and great enthusiasm when talking about her school. IH Newcastle itself is impressive: it’s very large, with great facilities, and it’s is able to offer students its own affordable, good quality apartments that are nearby, or for those who want to practice English more with native speakers, host families that are also not far from the school, as can often be the case in cities where language schools are so central. For students who are looking for an authentically English experience, Newcastle as a location has it all. It is located in the North of England, which, although it is gaining in popularity among persons wanting to study English there, still does not have a high concentration of English schools for foreigners. The city has two universities, Newcastle University, which is among the top 24 universities in the United Kingdom, as well as Northumbria University, for a total of about 80,00 university students in a city of about 300,000, so persons studying English at IH Newcastle will have plenty of opportunities to make friends with the local British university students in addition to their own classmates. They will also be able to enjoy the many attractions that Newcastle as a city and the surrounding area have to offer (including Scotland—the lovely and historic city of Edinburgh is just an hour and a half away by train.)”

One of the best ways to experience the British way of life and culture is to choose homestay accommodation. All homestays are carefully selected and visited regularly to ensure consistently high standards. Homestays are in fact the accommodation of choice for the majority of students. The school and Marshall Language Services recommend this form of accommodation the most for language learning. Family life is informal and the people are welcoming, friendly and talkative, so students will have plenty of opportunities to practice their English with native speakers. By booking homestay accommodation, students will also not have to worry about shopping for food and preparing meals every day. Mealtimes are often the occasions in which families converse most with the students.
