Similarities in style of Lancing’s magnificent gothic buildings to Oxford and Cambridge Universities, picturesque gardens and views of the sea provide the setting for this fine old school. Bede’s Summer Schools is proud to have been hosting its English language summer school at the Lancing School for children aged 13-18 for over fifteen years.
The hilltop location of the Lancing School, a village landmark, offers views of the seaside city of Brighton and is just five minutes from Shoreham Airport, where students can learn to fly. Lancing village was a popular seaside resort in the mid-19th century, where it was a favorite of the gentry for its secluded atmosphere. Summer tourist hallmarks are the traditional guest houses along the coast road. The county of West Sussex, where Lancing is located, has a range of scenery, including forestland and the white cliffs of the South Downs coast. West Sussex has a number of stately homes including Goodwood, Petworth House and Uppark, and also castles which includes Arundel Castle and Bramber Castle. Over half the county is protected countryside, offering walking, cycling and other recreational opportunities.
The Lancing school is just 4 km from the center of Lancing village. Central London is 1 hour and 15 minutes away by train and Brighton is just half an hour from the school.

Bede’s Summer School, Upper Dicker, Hailsham, East Sussex, Kent, BN27 3QH, England
“I have been sending teenage clients to the Bede’s schools for several years now. Once of the aspects that I appreciate most about these schools, beyond the fantastic facilities and wide assortment of courses and activities, is the fact that enrolments for speakers of a single mother tongue are limited. As a result, I can always feel confident that a student I send here is going to be able to make friends from many other parts of the world and language backgrounds, and speak English all day with those persons. Lancing is in a beautiful location near the south coast of England, and is easily accessible from London, for the ease of coming and going to its airports, and for the possibility of student excursions to the capital. The courses are also more intensive than are found on the most summer English language teenage programs, and Bede’s is one of the few schools that offer the possibility of its students preparing for the Cambridge exams during the summer, and for a relatively short period. Perhaps the most telling indicator of quality and client satisfaction for these schools is that I rarely have to “sell” them. Many of the clients I send here request these schools by name, and some send their children there year after year. As for clients who are unfamiliar with them, one of the most demanding and discerning parents that I have ever had in my career requested a residential program of this type a few years back, and after weeks of sending her brochures of some of the best that I deal with, she finally decided on Bede’s!”

English for Exam Preparation
Three Cambridge ESOL exams (Preliminary English Test, or PET, First Certificate in English, or FCE, and the Cambridge Advanced English, or CAE) are available at Bede’s. Enrolling on an exam course involves dedicated exam preparation (which students will do in place of English Skills and Enrichment) and writing practice papers to fully prepare students for the exam. The exams themselves will take place at Bede’s Dicker or an external local testing centre. Before the course, students must have the required minimum level for each exam, which will be verified prior to enrolment.
CAMBRIDGE PET (B1 LEVEL REQUIRED)
The PET is a qualification that shows a student can deal with everyday written and spoken English at an Intermediate level.
CAMBRIDGE FCE (B2 LEVEL REQUIRED)
Not available to 18 year olds. The FCE is a qualification that shows a student is becoming skilled in English and can use English at an Upper Intermediate level for study and work.
CAMBRIDGE CAE (C1 LEVEL REQUIRED)
Not available to 18 year olds. The CAE is a qualification that is globally accepted as proof of high achievement. It provides high-level English skills for academic and professional success and enables learners to make the most out of studying, living and working in English-speaking countries.
Course Outcomes
Students leave with their Bede’s Student Folder containing a course certificate, academic report and their own portfolio of school work. Bede’s presents awards in its Leavers’ Ceremony, not just for academic achievement, but also to recognize effort and improvement.
